Tatra Farm’s Breeding Program

Tatra Farm Currently Stands 3 Stallions:

Stallions and their offspring can be seen at Tatra North. The Stallions will stand at Tatra Farm South Feb thru March and shuttle to Tatra Farm North by April 1st. See individual stallion info for details. It is our goal to get your mare in foal! We have had great success with older mares. In 2009 our mare Descendress at 26 delivered her 20th foal and settled back in foal! Live cover, frozen, and fresh seaman offered on most of our stallions. Tatra Farm’s breeding program has excelled with great momentum. In 2008 Tatra Farm was ranked the # 1 USA Breeder of Grand Prix Horses and Magnum was ranked the top active stallion for producing Young Jumper Championship horses. Excelling in the Tatra Farm breeding and trained by Tatra in 2008 was Blue Danube (seen on our cover).


Recent Successful Horses bred by Tatra Farm:

  • Blue Danube: Winner of the 100K HITS/Ocala Grand Prix 2008. winner of the IJF 2004, National Horse Show YJC 2005, top 10 YJC nationals 2006 top Grand Prix horse 2009.


  • Moet Walk: Placing in several major Grand Prix’s 2008 and 2009. Reserve Champion at the 2004 IJF, top 10 at National YJC 2005 and 2006.


  • Adonis (Romeo): Reserve Ch IJF 2005, reserve Ch national Horse Show YJC 2006.


  • Winchester: Champion IJF 2006, top Equitation horse.


  • Bagdad Bob: Excelling in the pre-green hunters.


  • Picture Perfect: Winner in 5 and 6 yr old YJC Classes, sister to Blue Danube sired by Magnum/ one to watch for in the YJC Classes, with Aaron Vale.


  • Gunner: An expressive young stallion. Res. CH IJF 2007. Super scope and careful. Another one to watch in the YJC Classes, with Olympian Nona Garson.


  • Blue Pearl: Another ½ sister to Blue Danube. Res Ch IJF 2008. An amazing 5 yr old tis year in YJC Classes.


Tatra houses approximately 20 broodmares north and south. Offspring are offered for sale from conception to competition ready. Tatra Farm is well know for producing sound horses and youngsters with a good start. All ages are available for your viewing. See our sales list for young horses offered for sale.

Patricia Garthwaite Towle

Tatra Farm started with partners Patricia Garthwaite Towle and Pavel Blaho in 1984. After a Jr. Carrier riding in the Medal/Maclay division under Hugh Kerrigan, Patricia graduated Centenary College and then trained with Olympian Edith Master and competed in FEI level Dressage. Here carrier brought her to the prestigious Kent School as a faculty member teaching in the riding dept. , later she and Pavel started Tatra Farm. Under Pavels guidance she became a 3-time winner of the Saratoga Cup Grand Prix. 1994 with On Target, 1995 with Summer Fling and 2000 with Aly Ad Libs. Another win was the NY Horse and Pony Classic with ObscureII. Her carrier has been mostly focusing on developing young jumpers often born at Tatra Farm and developing riders, many whom started as working students. Pat was introduced to Magnum in 1998 and went to the Continental Young Jumper Championships in Monterrey, MX with him in 1999 placing 4th over all. Later the two competed in the Grand Prix division. He is now retired to stud at Tatra Farm. After recent spinal surgery Patricia is not showing as much, but continues to ride, teach and train daily. She oversees the daily operations and training. Her Training highlights include winning the 100K Grand Prix with Blue Danube at HITS/Ocala 2008 as well as a National Championship with him in 2005 and a reserve with Adonis in 2006. Patricia has also ridden many champions at the IJF. In 2002 Patricia married David Towle, president of Rio Vista Products. Together with Pillow and Kokomo they reside at Tatra Farm North in NY. Patricia is currently pursuing her judging license in Hunter, Equitation, hunter breeding and jumpers. Patricia is available to judge unrated shows. Also she is teaching several clinics and available.

Pavel Blaho

A former member of the CZECH National team. He arrived in the USA during the revolution in 1968, and after 18 years as director of riding at the prestiqous Kent School, he started Tatra Farm with business partner Patricia Garthwite in Clinton Corners, NY.Pavel has taught and helped direct such well known riders such as Norman Dello Joio (World Champion and Olympian) , Gery O’Mera, Fredrico and David Garza (MX Olympians and Pan –Am Games), Pablo and Jose Caballos (Pan-Am Games-VZ), Jeannie Depuch (Pan-Am Games ’92 Cuba), Carlos Dodera (WEG ’99) , and Isreal Lopez (Pan-Am and Central Am Games). Pavel Blaho has also trained the Puerto Rican team for the Central Am Games in ’95 and ’99. Pavel resides in Williston, FL at Tatra Farm South with his wife Karen Blaho , a TB race horse breeder. During the winter he is active training the show horses for the HITS/Ocala shows. Off season he oversees the breeding of the TB race horses and Tatra’s sport horses.
